[ Several minutes pass... ]

They don't suit me at all! The body type is all wrong!

[ I mean. It's not a skirt, so he doesn't have too much to complain about. ]

[ She could have gone with a skirt, but that means she'd have to wear one too to be matchy. ]

Do you want a hoodie to put over it? The one you have in there should fit.

No... the pants are too slim. I don't think a size change that fix that either...

[ What happened to it being too slim?? Maybe it's just Terry's preferences. Anyway, when Terry is done, he'll slowly open the door after telling Kido that he's finished and he comes out. He's wearing the white shirt, but you can't see it under the black hoodie at all. Moreover, the hoodie seems to be a little big for his size, with only his fingers peeking out of the arm hole. The hat covers some of his face, since he's not wearing the hood, but it doesn't do anything to hide the obvious embarrassment as he tilts his head down. Since the hoodie jacket is big on him, it kinda hides the actual size of his shoulders, making him seem smaller then he is. The pants are basically like wearing skinny jeans though. lmao. ]

[ ...haha. He looks ridiculous, and Kido almost smiles, taking out her phone and taking Terry's picture. Another one for the family photo album. ]

The glasses will really complete the look. Alright, so we're set.

... I can't wear these pants. I feel like my blood circulation is getting cut off.

[ He immediately goes back into the changing room. ]

I thought you'd pick out something better!

What could be better than the clothes you so kindly picked out for me? Stay in there; I'll be back with another pair of pants.

[ She'll have mercy and find something in the men's section, but it'll still be skinny jeans ]

Terry will honestly just take this as Kido doesn't care what the hell he wears as long as it's either decent or funny looking (to her). That's one thing he learned today... but he wants to find her preferences on his own without pinpointing. Pinpointing feels like cheating in a relationship like this...

Terry obediently waits in the dressing room though. ]

[ Laughs, yeah, she really honestly does not care what people wear, because it's not like she's the shining beacon of fashion herself. So, whatever's comfortable. Or funny (to her). She's just being mean.

She never had to shop for anyone other than herself, so she just goes by the length of Terry's legs to find a couple pair of pants to toss over. They're all ones with soft enough fabric that he can run and jump in, though, because that's what he's going to be doing, huh. ]

[ Yeah, that's exactly what he'll be doing, but he still hates skinny jeans. he hates how tight they are on his legs, soft or not, so he'll hang the pants over the door. ]

Can you not get skinny jeans...

Why not? Isn't it fun dressing up how you wouldn't normally?

Or, you can pick out whatever you want, like I said in the first place. If you're going to talk about someone looking good no matter what they wear, that'd be you, right?

[ Not jumping, but the falling and landing and it being a miracle he hasn't shattered his shins yet. It looks like Kido's remembering bits and pieces about Terry the longer they talk, but it's just stuff like this...

She does toss another pair of paints over the door, though. Something sort of like what she typically wears, so he won't have to buy her another pair of pants to match. ]

[ He catches the pair of pants and, well. This looks fine. ]

No, um... they're too tight for my legs. It's just not being thin enough to wear them.

[ It's a pretty normal answer, but he's embarrassed by it anyway. He still has weird standards. Anyway, he puts them on and comes back out. The pants are the only thing he changed, but he looks a lot more comfortable now. ]

[ Is this like the time in the castle where Kido said he should be heavier than her because he's a man? Does Terry think he's fat?? What's your hangup about, Terry... ]

It gets uncomfortable even if you're thin enough. That last one's better, right? Maybe keep that in mind the next time you choose outfits for people.

[ Oh.

Terry blinks and looks over at her. When Kido says that, he can't help but wonder. ]

Sorry... I'll pick more comfortable clothes next time.

It's fine. It's not like I'd wear that sort of thing with plans to go running around everywhere anyways.

[ You don't wear fancy clothes to jump off castle spires, so it doesn't matter. Nice clothes like this... she can't really imagine herself wearing it, but it'll either be for a special occassion or for holing herself up in her room so nobody can see. Apparently she owns a frilly skirt in canon and plays dress up in her own room sometimes. ]

...Are you really going to buy all of it?

[ Kido's words make him reconsider his options. They're definitely buying the hoodie jackets. The white top looked nice on Kido and it looked pretty comfortable, but she'll always wear a hoodie over it. Probably.

He looks down at the hoodie jacket he's wearing right now. It's big on him. It's probably a size or two higher than his regular size. You can probably fit two people in this jacket. That sounds fun, yet... embarrassing...

Anyway.

The hats look nice though, but again, hoodie jacket. But there's something fashionable about wearing a hood over a hat, right? But he doesn't know what that is. ]

Let me go change first. I'll think about it.

[ Kido actually made Terry reconsider. Amazing. He goes back into the dressing room and closes the door. ]

[ He can buy a smaller hoodie if he wants, and he doesn't have to buy any of this if he doesn't want to, especially the clothes for himself.

When Terry come out of the dressing room, Kido's just standing in the middle of the store, not really looking at any of the clothes but staring across the store out the window instead, like she's deep in thought. Arms crossed over her chest, with the tips of her fingers half faded until she hears the door shut behind Terry and she turns to him, sliding her hands into her pants pockets. ]

All set? I'll pay for the hoodie, and you can do what you want with the rest.

[ Terry nods. He ends up getting the white shirt for Kido as maybe something to wear around the house if she feels like it and gets pair of pants to the similar style she got for him except in Kido's size. It looks comfortable to wear this time. This is his biggest criteria now. He'll get a black hoodie for himself, one size smaller than the one he wore in the dressing room. It's about time that he changes jackets. Who knows how many wash cycles it went through in an attempt to get bloodstains out...

He'll buy shoes another time because he got those light up shoes from before. Terry goes to pay for the things he picked out and goes over to Kido when he's done. ]

I'm done! I'll carry your bags too.

It's alright, I'll just wear it.

[ It's what she'd originally meant to do, anyways, pulling the hoodie over head and tucking the tag in behind her neck so it doesn't poke her when she puts the hood up. Like this, the entire world gets blocked out besides what's right in front of her. Which is just Terry. Like he's the only person left in the entire world that's become nothing but darkness. ]

But, hey. It... was a good day. I had a good time. I need you to know that, because...

[ Because she sure doesn't look like she's having a good time, staring somewhere around Terry's navel instead of his face. ]

...I didn't think I could have a good day ever again.

[ She didn't think she could be happy ever again. She keeps thinking about them. Even the black hoodie she has on, rather than comfort, it reminds her of Kano's and him dead in her arms when all she could do was cry. Every time she wants to smile, there's a crushing sense of guilt, because she doesn't want to be the only one smiling. She doesn't want to be the only one here. ]

I— [ her voice breaks, and she drops it to a whisper ] I really miss them.

[ Terry stands there, listening to Kido's confession. When her voice breaks, it's painful to hear because he can feel the crushing anguish from that alone. He drops the shopping bag and hugs Kido. He wants to be there for her, like when she was there when he was freaking out about the possibility of his original existing here. A hand moves to the back of her head and he lightly pushes it to his shoulder as he pulls her even closer, probably a sign that it's okay to cry. It's okay to let it out. ]

I'll always try to make good days with you, Kido. You feel a lot of grief over what happened... that's okay. It's okay to feel that way. After all, they were close people, precious people to you... But know that your new family here will always support you too. At least I... I'll always be there for you.

[ She doesn't want to cry, not in public. But it doesn't matter, because her eyes have already changed from black to red, swimming in tears, the two of them no longer existing, as far as the rest of the world is concerned. As if removing them from that world and placing them in an entirely new one, where they're the only two people left, just like she said.

She'd cried so much the past week already, enough that her voice had gone hoarse and she'd tired herself out to have fallen asleep more than once, but it appears to be endless as she presses her face to Terry's shoulder, not quite hugging back, but clutching the fabric of the shirt on his back. To trigger her ability, she'd learned when she was a kid, all she has to do is think of something sad, and now she has an endless supply to draw from. ]

I keep losing my family, Terrence. I don't want to lose you too...

[ Even if he can't die, there are still ways to lose him. She'd lost him for ten years already. And even though death is a natural part of life, and she knows that, what really makes her furious about all this is that- ]

So many of them, they weren't even accidents. There was so much murder— either somebody took their life, or they took their own. How is that fair?

... It isn't.

[ He quietly breathes out and holds Kido a little tighter than before. He recalls Vassago briefly coming out without the usual summoning method in the hospital and his conversation with Souji pretty much reinforced the idea that he probably doesn't have much time left, even though he's been doing all that he can to try and find a way so that Vassago doesn't turn into a Shadow like Sasuke's did. It's too bad that it's all having the opposite effect every time he tries and while the therapy did help a little, the event (death) after worsened everything. The conversations he had with everyone in the hospital furthered all that. He doesn't want to go.

But then he wonders... is it more important to stay alive as someone else or die as yourself?

... ]

That's what makes it sadder... and unfair.

[ Either way, he doesn't want Kido to go through that again, but he doesn't know what to do otherwise. He could continue searching for other ways, but it already feels futile. It drained whatever was left of his optimism, but he can at least try for other people. It's a lot draining when other people are involved rather than just worrying about himself, but that's the price of having friends--people who care.

It's not so bad. ]

Sorry... that I can't do much more.

[ It sure would be nice to just hop on over to Kido's world and fuck up whoever destroyed her family, but. You know. ]
